What does GASP stand for?
The GASP acronym changes each campaign season to reflect our goals and the current political climate. In 2024, GASP stood for Girlfriends Activating our Superpowers! In previous years it has stood for Girlfriends Against Switching Parties (2023), Girlfriends Actively Supporting Progress, Girlfriends Actively Supporting Our President (2012), and originally Girlfriends Appalled by Sarah Palin (2008).
Will GASP hold a fundraiser for my candidate?
No, GASP is not a fundraising entity. We do encourage our girlfriends to directly engage with candidates to sponsor events and we welcome them to post that information on our Facebook page.
Can my candidate attend a GASP meeting?
Yes! Any progressive candidate or elected official in attendance will be recognized. Please make yourself known at our check-in table. If a candidate would like to discuss opportunities to speak at one of our meetings, please contact us. State and federal candidates are welcome to bring literature, yard signs, etc. to have available for attendees.
How can I get involved?
GASP serves as a cheerleader, catalyst and info conduit for the volunteer actions of like-minded groups. We provide information about opportunities for a wide variety of sign-up opportunities (including letter writing, phone banking, door knocking, rally-going, Get Out The Vote activities) via our emails, social media and website. All are welcome to attend our meetings.
Can I donate to GASP?
We don’t accept donations. We do not have formal status as an organization. We do not directly conduct any electioneering communication. We are not party affiliated. Wherever campaign-related expenditures are involved, those donations are made only as individuals. We are a loosely connected group of girlfriends who aim to boost political engagement through fun and fellowship.
